Bo & Luke (Against the Grain & De Molen)
Mr. K ordered this smoked bourbon barrel-aged Russian Imperial Stout when he picked up my Old Rasputin XV. He set it on the table and tried to pass it off as mine! It was a nice RIS though, but not the XV.
General Thoughts
Look and Smell: This black brew had a thin head that settled into a thin ring. It smelled smoked and boozy.
Taste: It was very smoked and roasted. Great combo. It had a coffee roast. It was bitter with a bitter spike. A little too bitter/sharp compared to the XV. The vanilla flavors smoothed it out. It had a coffee aftertaste. It was a nice change from the standard RIS.
From the menu:
A special collaboration brew between ATG & De Molen. A smoked Imperial Stout aged in Pappy Van Winkel Bourbon barrels. Yes, it's as good, nay, BETTER than it sounds.
