25 Drinks: Syrup and Sugar and Everything Nice

Day 19 of the boozy advent calendar brought us a syrupy sweet barleywine. I grabbed Perennial's Vermilion Winter Ale when I was out there a few years ago. I'm surprised how sugary this after a couple of years in the bottle.

It was a total boozer. It didn't even try to hide the 10.5% ABV. By that alone, it was a December warmer. But with the earthy malt and that touch of spice, it hit all points necessary in my book. I try to keep a stock of barleywines to get me through the frigid days of winter. Some need some time to smooth out. I don't think this once would have gotten much smoother with age.
