Electrifying Performance
Last night, I saw The Electric Baby at the Black Box Theater in the Arvada Center.
As much as I read online, saw in the video, and studied in the guide, I wasn't prepared for such a powerful performance. You can read the logistics and background, but you can't get the emotion-provoking experience outside the theater.
The ties that bound these characters were strong. The emotions were multi-layered. It wasn't as simple as grief, anger, or loss; it was levels of loss mixed with anger or the deepest sorrow. Laughter and dance. Energetic storytelling. In-your-face guilt that can't be ignored.
The actors just flowed with the rollercoaster of emotions, reaching peaks and valleys, and peaks again. The group was a channel to the story.
This performance was so thought-provoking that I found myself woken up the night after by my own thoughts. I subconsciously was examining the layers of this story in my sleep. It's one that I'd like to see again to see what else I might catch.
The show runs through May 4, look for it at other venues nationwide.
