Grand Cru (Great Divide)

This was part of a nice tasting set enjoyed while watching some good movies and lazing about. Good times. It was Sunday, so that may explain this monk-ish beer selection. This Belgian-Style Dark Ale was a good move from the lighter Belgian Ales (Salvation and Tripel).

General Thoughts
Look and Smell: This had a thick head when I poured it. It was a dark brown, almost ruby. I could smell the malt. It was a really light smell, not super sweet. It had good lacing as it settled.

Taste: It was sweet and malty. It was nice and thick. It wasn't overly sweet like some schwarzbier ( black lager). For some reason I was getting this "goes great with meat" feeling, like a  with a savory steak. It would probably balance it great. It had a malty aftertaste. Tasty and enjoyable. A good addition to my Great Divide set of drinkable brews.

From the Great Divide site:
Grand Cru is our very special Belgian-style dark ale. Imported malts give it a round malty richness, and the fruity complexity and slightly spicy character come from brewing with a proprietary Belgian yeast strain. Don’t let the name fool you; while it may be a special occasion beer, this medium-bodied, elegant incarnation is anything but snobbish.
